A SECOND CHANCE
Open Space Films writer/producer/director Federico Muchnik is making a feature-length film. A SECOND CHANCE, is a Hitchcock-style story about love, betrayal, jealousy, revenge, and redemption. Suspense, surprise, comedy, and drama figure prominently in a story about a couple torn apart through the machinations of a rogue con artist who gets his comeuppance.
A SECOND CHANCE will be filmed primarily in Cambridge. The production will partner with people and local businesses to create a unique, expertly made and entertaining motion picture.
In A SECOND CHANCE an innocent man is misled by a con artist into believing his faithful wife has betrayed him. In a fit of jealous rage he orders her to be killed but the man hired to do the job cannot go through with the murder and sets her free under the provision she never set foot in her hometown again. She moves to another city, disguises herself as a man and, through a chance encounter, learns about the con artist and his deception, setting the stage for a thrilling, revenge-themed finale.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Open Space Films benefits from a 25% Massachusetts Tax Credit for motion pictures made in the state. On a $100,000 budget, the state will return $25,000 as long as that $100,000 is spent within a 12-month period. The film's producers are well versed in this process, having gone through it before. The Massachusetts Tax Credit tax credit means the production will have added funds to spend finishing and marketing the film. It also means investors will see an early return on their investment, even before the film is distributed.
A SECOND CHANCE will be presented at venues like The Brattle Cinema, The Somerville Theater, or The Kendall Square Cinema. It will be rolled out extensively, playing at local and regional or national/international film festivals before being released online, first as an on-demand title, then available through one or more of the online streamers.
Open Space Films aims to bring new people into the art and craft of filmmaking. Throughout the production process there will be an instructional component allowing newcomers to better understand how to develop, write, prepare, film, edit, and deliver a feature film.
Quality control will be implemented at every stage of the film's production, yielding a movie that will feel several times more expensive than its modest budget.
Frequently Asked Questions
How can a feature film be so inexpensive?
Years of production experience has shown us how to work economically while bringing a project to completion on time and on budget.
The new digital filmmaking technology we'll be using is highly affordable, so our equipment costs will be low. Additionally, it is so compact that crew size will be minimal, bringing down the cost of labor.
We will be working with a locally-based cast. In other words: no travel and lodging costs for actors. The cast will include some of the best actors in the region. We understand the risks of not hiring movie stars; distribution prospects are diminished. We believe the talent we have in our backyard will more than suffice in getting local audiences, and hopefully beyond, to notice and pay to see the film once it screens in theaters and online.
Can I read the screenplay?
There is a completed screenplay which investors, cast, and certain crew members may read. Volunteers, interns, and production assistants will read a synopsis of the storyline, its themes, origins, and a director's statement.
Can I see the film's budget?
Investors see the budget. For instructional purposes cast, crew, volunteers will see a budget with line items but not the corresponding amounts.
How can I invest in A SECOND CHANCE and own a percentage of the film?
Investment units through a limited partnership agreement are available in three amounts: $1,000, $5,000 and $10,000, with investors free to acquire as many units as they wish. Given the film's $100,000 budget, a $5,000 investment equals ownership of 5% of the film and, by extension, 5% of the project's net revenues. Investors: contact Federico Muchnik here.
